Halsted Kloster Golf Club is located on Lolland, 7 km east of Nakskov, near Halsted Kloster manor. The club opened its 18-hole course in June 1996. Halsted Kloster Golf Club places a high value on club life and social interaction, thriving in a 200-year-old forest ranger’s house overlooking the putting green and some of the course’s initial holes.
Situated in a picturesque area on historic grounds near Halsted Kloster, the course’s first nine holes wind through small forests and water hazards along Halsted Stream. Renowned course architect, the late Frederik Dreyer, who designed numerous golf courses in Denmark, was selected to outline Halsted Kloster Golf Club’s course. His vision was to create a challenging and exciting course layout through the scenic areas around Halsted Kloster. Holes 9 and from 10 to 18 showcase stunning views of the valley near Dyrehaven and the finishing 18th hole, which runs alongside the avenue leading up to Halsted Kloster, is exceptional.
The Golf Course
Established in 1995 on Halsted Kloster’s scenic grounds, nearly every step taken on the course is on historical land. Numerous artifacts from the Stone Age and Bronze Age indicate human habitation in the area since the Ice Age shaped the landscape. Today, the golf course is built partly on ancient seabed and partly on the old hilly coastline.
After a gentle start, players encounter the impressive 4th and 5th holes. The game plays along the edge of the forest, offering scenic views. By the 6th hole, the challenge intensifies, momentarily shifting the focus from nature.
This lengthy par 4 hole requires a 140-160 meter second shot over water to reach the green. For less ambitious players, a safer approach involves aiming left around the lake and executing a short wedge shot toward the green.
The front nine concludes with one of the course’s signature holes: a dogleg 312-meter hole. Players tee off to the fairway’s bottom and then navigate into the woods toward an elevated green.
This hole is a visual and strategic wonder. Long hitters may attempt to clear the corner, but a massive fairway bunker on the left side, directly in line between tee and green, penalizes overly aggressive shots. The landscape changes character on the back nine, with the 13th hole, a 563-meter par 5, ranking among the country’s longest par 5s.
The 14th hole is another signature feature. Players tee off from a high elevated position with a view of the low-lying fairway. Multiple hazards must be negotiated between tee and green, including a large meadow to the left.
One immediately noticeable feature is the exceptional quality of the greens—fast, smooth, and often split into two levels along the player’s path, providing both entertainment and challenging putting.
Additionally, the golf course offers a driving range (250 m), a putting green, a chipping area, and a corresponding 6-hole par 3 course.
